Good Fortune Mystery Clue 6

Oh my, we're already at clue number 6! Some wonderful string piecing of your neutral Fabrics was Bonnie clue. Since I have been working with one neutral for the rest of the clues I thought since I'd already pulled them, I would work in scrappy neutrals. I decided instead of string piecing on a foundation I would go with strip piecing but make sure there's plenty of variety. And because I didn't get a chance to show my finished clue number 5 last week I added those to this picture post. Follow along with all the other Quilters as they discover what Good Fortune is going to turn out to look like? https://quiltville.blogspot.com/2018/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-6.html Inspiration for these Fabrics it's not very hard to figure out. The sandy beaches that surrounded us as we visited Oahu. One thing that made this particular clue a bit of a problem was that on Christmas Eve we had a sewer flood back up in my laundry area which is just a part of my sewi

It's time for Clue 5 Good Fortune Mystery

It's the day before Christmas and all through my house lots of creatures are storing but not any Mouse.  Nana is down by her sewing machine trying to get this clue done! Follow along with dozens more quilters https://quiltville.blogspot.com/2018/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-5.html Alas, I miss cut which slowed me down I'm still not exactly sure what happened however I've tried to make it work and I think it will. I used two rulers that were already in my supplies those offered by Kaye England. The only unfortunate thing was that I picked up the wrong ruler to cut the large triangles, which ended up leaving bias on the outside  of the triangles that I cut from the strips . Well dang , a whole pile ended up being too small. But that's okay I just recut and now I have to finish up this clue. Those on the cutting table upside down are the ones I need to trim up to try and see if I can salvage them. Hey you can always find an open door when that window gets clos

Good Fortune clue number 4

As many people had already speculated there's some string piecing going on in this project. Of course Bonnie being who she is, gave people options you could traditionally string piece onto very thin paper. You could strip piece without using any paper. You can just cut the cop out version which is rectangles of the correct size in different fabrics in the orange family which is Bonnie's color for this clue. This is where my greens will come in... lots and lots of different colors of green anything from a very blue green a very light happy limey green or a nice medium green or even a deep dark Hunter forest green.  Whenever I teach a class that using greens or when people ask can you put this green with that green I always tell them of course! All you have to do is look at nature All Greens go together :-) Indeed while we were in Hawaii there were many many shades and tints and tones of green and they all looked beautiful altogether. Good Fortune Clue number 3

Oh dear it's the dreaded half chevrons! Okay, could be worse could be those long-legged pointed triangles. These were not actually not too bad. More information on Bonnie Hunter' s blog https://quiltville.blogspot.com/2018/12/mystery-monday-link-up-part-3.html I decided to use my Folded Corners ruler and it pretty much went exactly as it was supposed to. You probably can't tell from the pictures but I am scaling down the size of a quilt unless it's something that I really really really love. Since I have been substituting my color scheme this clue, which in Bonnie's quilt was Greens (which I will be using later) I chose to use yellow to represent the beautiful sunshine and some of the lovely hibiscus flowers. Amazing though what I thought would be plenty of contrast because my background is supposed to represent the Sandy Beach I'm not so sure I got enough contrast with some of my yellows. And along with that my yellows turned out to be in short supply so

Good Fortune Clue 2

Oh, goody! Half Square triangles were the next clue, number two. Luckily I know how to make them using paper as my guidelines. Just cut your fabric pieces to size, sew on the dotted lines, cut on the solid lines. Of course you have to remove the paper and press but you have to press no matter which method you end up using don't you? These turned out perfectly using my various tints, tones and shades of blue. aqua and teal. I saw so many incredibly beautiful Blues in the ocean when we were in Hawaii. Taking pictures doesn't always give you true colors but I figured there were so many different blues I wasn't going to miss any of them!  Howard's attempts to find unbroken shells  Alex found a few too  Pardon the finger

It's The Year for Good Fortune...Quilting

Black Friday 2018 was the start of Bonnie Hunter's good fortune mystery quilt inspired by her trip to China. What wonderful sites inspired this beautifully designed quilt or, at least I hope it's beautifully designed! LOL her inspiration photos are incredible however since I have absolutely no experience in going to China I decided maybe I should adapt as I have previously, my colors and inspiration to fit me. My adaptation comes from Howard and my recent trip to Hawaii to visit our military serving daughter's husband and the family. Brett's Service as a physical therapist has been rewarded by his recent promotion so now he's Major Brett! So, being inspired by the wonderful colors that I experienced while visiting Hawaii I went on the search for a suitable inspiration piece of fabric that probably will end up as borders. Took me awhile to find something but I finally found this incredibly vibrant batik fabric. Not my usual style at all as I prefer reproduction vint
