Project quilting Challenge 10.2

The Second Challenge in the project quilting world is red white and blue or any combination of those colors. I decided I could play around with red and white since Valentine's Day is just around the corner.
I have the Twister template small and thought it would make a fun valentine heart wall hanging. I gathered together 5 inch red squares and white fat quarters that were in my stash and took it all down  down to St George Utah for our annual Night Group quilting retreat.
I asked one of my friends if I could borrow her twister book but alas she couldn't find it so I figured I could just wing it with images on Pinterest.
Had the grid all laid out and sewn together then came my first mistake! In order to make sure that you have a nice image you have to make sure that your Border in this particular quilt is white, otherwise confusion Reigns. I chose to use one of my very favorite Fabrics in red, oh no!
Second thing you needed a much larger space than we had at the condo to lay out and cut so, I decided I would just hold off until I got home on Saturday evening, surely I could finish it up by then.
And then came my third problem I never realized or even thought about the fact that I would need to cut each row, lay them out and then a smart quilter would then sew each row together before they start thi next row,  I wasn't a very smart quilter that day. So I got them all cut and had a big jumbled mess  and being tired from our trip back from St George I decided to go on to bed and sleep on it   I realize by then that my first border which is red with was a mistake and was going to cause me no end of confusion.
So I wasn't able to get my quilt completed by the Sunday at 11 Mountain Time deadline. But I decided I was going to go ahead and finish it up with all its flaws and difficulties. So there you go the story of my red and white Valentine's Day project quilting challenge.

Project Quilting Challenge 1 Hope

Trying to come up with a translation of Hope to a quilting project was my challenge this week. Project quilting is a fun idea by persimmon dreams quilt ing to try and get you to think beyond what you would normally do in a quilting project. I'm not a art quilter, I'm  I'm definitely a traditional quilt maker but I wanted to try and participate the best way I could. So hope for me is something that I always want to have in my heart and in my life but I also understand that sometimes the things we hope for don't always come to pass. I chose to create a representation of a cancer ribbon combining the blue of all cancers the blue of colon cancer and the lavender or purple of all other cancers. My mother recently dealt with cancer of her colon but we were very blessed that it was found in a place that was easy to treat and even without taking chemotherapy it was still done with surgery and very successfully. I'm hoping that I will still have my mother around for many y

Project Quilting Challenge#6 Chocolate

Yep, that's correct Challenge number 6 for project quilting is chocolate! Couldn't have picked a more favorite item for me to try to recreate. Looks like there may be more than one of us who have fond remembrances of chocolate Easter bunnies especially at this time of the year when Easter is on many people's mind. Saw an inspiration on Pinterest of a darling pillow cover made with strips and an applique chocolate bunny. Luckily I had the perfect chocolate type fabric just waiting for me. Of course I gave him a candy pink eye and instead of the normal pink or blue bow I used yellow because I thought it looked better with all the fabrics. It was fun creating this cute bunny and he will look very nice until Easter arrives. And the great thing is he doesn't have any carbs and he won't melt :-) Check out these other chocolate inspired Creations click here Alert alert! I just realized I forgot his tail I will try and update later :-)

Project Quilting challenge 10.3

This new Project Quilting Challenge number three is a fun one "Bigger than a Breadbox"... It can be any color any project any theme as long as it measures at least 16 by 8 in. It's nice to have the freedom to create something simple and something that in this case will be very useful. Every year my quilt group in American Fork,  Utah makes  placemats and mug rugs for Meals on Wheels to be delivered to their patrons sometime in December.  So for me this cute Santa and remnants from my stash came together for this Project Quilting challenge Bigger than a Breadbox. Just some simple quilting and someone will be happy to receive it come the Christmas season.
